    • Marching BandGrade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12, Semester Course – 5 Physical Education Credits Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in approved SHS Instrumental Music Ensemble or Color Guard. The Spartan Marching Band performs for all South High home football games as well as field competitions and parades. The Spartan marching band rehearses twice a week. Rehearsals are generally Monday night from 6-9 PM and Thursday night from 5-8 PM during the fall semester. All Advanced Band and Wind Ensemble members must participate in the Spartan Marching Band. Exceptions are granted to students participating in either the Varsity or Junior Varsity football program. There will be a required TUSD transportation fee per student.
    • Concert BandConcert Events Winter Concert WINTER CONCERT — December 16, 2010 — Our annual Winter Concert performance will be held at the Armstrong Theater. It will be a joint concert with the South High Choir. Tickets will go on sale approximately one month prior to the performance, giving students plenty of time to sell tickets to family, friends and neighbors. You’ll want to make this musical treat a holiday tradition! South Area Festival SOUTH AREA FESTIVAL — Date TBD — This fun-filled evening features performances from Richardson Middle School, Calle Mayor Middle School and South High! This event is always a real hit! Don’t miss it! Spring Concert SPRING CONCERT — TBD — Our Concert Band & Wind Ensemble will perform at our annual Spring Concert. Location TBD. Tickets will go on sale approximately one month prior to the performance.     • Jazz BandJazz Events Our program is in constant growth and we are looking forward to another great year ahead. In order for this program to succeed, we are requesting that all families join the Spartan Band Booster Organization. The Booster organization is vital to the success of the South High Band program. Through their fundraising efforts; purchasing new instruments and equipment; helping to organize and chaperone off-site events/ trips; and facilitating guest speakers/instructors, we, as Jazz members benefit by this group. Thank you for promptly returning the Jazz Information Sheet, payment and Medical Release Form, (even if you already filled one out for Marching Band) to the band room lockbox. Jazz Band A Grade Level: 10, 11, 12, Year Course – 10 Credits Prerequisite: Audition / Permission from SHS Band Director UC/CSU Approved “f” This is South High’s premier jazz ensemble and its emphasis is the performance of classic and contemporary jazz music literature. Students will develop an in-depth understanding of jazz music, as well as, achieve a high level of improvisational mastery on their instrument.
